HEALTH PROGRAM
Health and Well-Being
Study after study proves what educators have long believed to be true: when children’s exercise, health and fitness needs are met, they have the cognitive energy to learn and achieve.
Given the growing epidemic of obesity and the link between physical activity and academic performance, with the help of funding from both the Parkview and St. Joseph Community Foundations, MLKMS works together to make quality daily physical and health education a priority in our schools. We do this at an early age to give children more opportunities to be physically active today, tomorrow and in the future.
In order to keep children healthy and prevent the spread of disease, MLKMS policies on the most common contagious illnesses or infestations are listed below. A parent/guardian will be called and the child will not be allowed to remain at school with any of the symptoms listed below.
- Fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or over
- Excessive runny nose and/or continual coughing
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Unidentified rash
- Sore throat, swollen glands.
- Pink eyes and/or eye with discharge--thick mucus (yellow, green or white)
For a complete list of contagious illness policy and procedure for exclusion and readmission to school, please see the MLKMS Parent Handbook.
