OUR DREAM CAMPAIGN

Our Dream for the Future
MLK’s Dream Campaign
MLK school has turned our attention to future needs by developing an institutional structure and programs to better serve our children and community.

A generous gift from the Lincoln Financial Group Foundation allowed MLK Montessori School to take over ownership and management of Great Beginnings Child Development Center at 333 W. Lewis Street.  The perfect place for MLK’s three campuses to come together under one roof, the Great Beginnings facility has enabled us to function more efficiently and effectively and develop exciting new programs and services with less duplication and costs.

Facility Upgrades & New Programs
Achieving our dream of a new home designed with young children and their unique learning styles in mind.  Though the Great Beginnings building is less than 10 years old, its roof and boiler system need replacing in the next five to seven years and on-going maintenance will be required.

Renovations have made room for two new programs offered by MLK Montessori School for the first time in 2004: full day kindergarten classes and full day programmming.  MLK Montessori School is among the few Indiana preschools to offer a variety of comprehensive services including a health program, door-to-door transportation in our own buses, a federal food and nutrition program, and family services, just to name a few. The addition of our kindergarten and full day programs are furthering the mission to provide affordable, high-quality childhood education and services to our community.

Scholarship Funding
At the heart of MLK’s “Leave No Child Behind” philosophy is our education of economic and racially diverse families and their children.  In order to have the racial and economic diversity that is at the core of our unique educational program, we need a $1 million endowment so that we can continue to supplement the tuition costs of more than 89 percent of our student body.  Our student body has increased from 98 in our satellite classrooms to 129 in our new centralized building.  We are thrilled to be serving more students, but our financial responsibilities grow with each family we serve.

Early childhood education has never played a more important role in preparing young children for a successful and brighter future.  The centralization of MLK Montessori School on one campus has allowed a dedicated and caring staff and community to give so much more back to the precious time in a child’s life of learning.  But we need you help to continue our mission.  On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you for being a part of MLK Montessori School history - and an important part of the future!
