Weekly news in Room 101

Parents in Room 101

Congratulations to Ms Quay, who had a healthy baby boy Sunday February 12th around the 9 o'clock hour.  His name is Ja'Mion, he was 4lbs 13oz and went home with mom on Valentine's Night.  What a special gift to take home for a Valentine!  Ms. Quay would like to thank all the parents who brought special gifts for the baby and those who kept her in prayer.

In the classroom, the children are getting used to Ms. Julia.  The rules are a little different and it will be an adjustment for all, but the children are doing well in the transition.  They have already started learning their colors in Spanish!

With Montessori curriculum it is important for the children to have routine and structure.  Ms. Julia will be taking the kids 'all the way back to the beginning' for at least the first week.  This will give the kids a chance to learn Ms. Julia's expectations for the room and to practice what is expected.  They will still be working on their work, Ms. Julia will pick up where Ms. Quay left off and the children will continue learning and applying what they know, without loosing momentum.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this transition or your child's education, please feel free to come in at anytime to observe in the classroom or call to make an appointment to speak with the teachers.

Room 101 News

Hello Parents, welcome to another week of learning!  Your children have been working hard on the materials in the classroom to build their skills and knowledge for their next level.

I would like to share a piece of news with you all,  I will be going on maternity leave as of February 10, 2017.  Ms. Angela will be with the children and the teacher that will be stepping in for me is Ms. Julia Vasquez, she is the teacher currently in room 102.  Also, Ms. Gandhi will be helping out every Tuesday.  She has been with MLKMS for a long time and she is definitely great with teaching and helping the children understand more about Montessori learning.

I would like to thank you all for the wonderful gifts and blessings for my new baby

Please don't forget to check your child's book bags and folders each day!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

I would like to share a piece of news with you all,  I will be going on maternity leave as of February 10, 2017.  Ms. Angela will be with the children and the teacher that will be stepping in for me, is Ms. Julia.  Ms. Julia is the teacher in room 102 and she is also a bus driver.  She will be coming in and introducing herself to the children and getting to know your child so that the transition is smooth for them as well as for her.  She is a great teacher and she also speaks Spanish so the children will have a wonderful time learning and speaking a different language as well.

Room 101 News

Room 101 is lead by Ms. Quay and Ms. Angela

This week the children are learning a lot of different things.  Because each child learns differently we base our teaching on what the child needs to know and to help them mature in all other areas of the classroom!  We have been working with everyone on how to tie shoes, especially our graduates.

We also have been working on math works such as numbers 1-9, 1-10, 11-19, and 1-20.   We have introduced a new work to some of the children who have advanced to the decimal system learning ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands, which they are really starting to love doing.  We are working with everyone on name tracing and writing, we are also doing letter sounds of the alphabet and we are starting to break letters down into groups.  The children will learn at least five sounds at a time.  We also do them together during our line time in the morning as a group.

We work on cite words, which we have been doing since the beginning of school.  Our cite words are: jump, play, a, help, me, up, we, I , look.  I will add a new word next week, as we continue go over the other words that the children are already familiar with.  This is an advancement on teaching them how to read!  We are very busy with learning in 101!  Please help your child with learning how to tie their shoes.  This is our biggest hardship in our class, please encourage them that they can do it!
