February Newsletter

Dear Parents of 104,

January pasted quickly as we started to focus on our letters.  We have worked on the following letters:  l, j, t, f and this past week we worked on the letter h.  Each letter we worked on writing the letter in the air together, practiced writing the letter on paper, and worked on the sound of the letter.  This past week as we worked together on the letter h we came up with the following words that begin with the letter h: hat, horse, hippo, hen, helicopter, heart, hospital, hog, hair, head, hand, hot, help, hamburger, hi and hello.

As you work with the child at home, repeat the letter, number three times.  It takes three times for their brain to absorb the letter, number or whatever that we are working on.

In February 14, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Party.  Please send in Valentines with just your child’s name on the back of the valentine.  We will make sure that each child we receive their valentine.  I encourage the children to sign their valentine as that is good practice to write their name.  If you would like to bring in a treat you are welcome to do that.

Take time to breathe, take time to live in the moment and our time is now. I tell the children every day to breathe and the live in the moment.

Classroom News

Dear Parents,

We will be having a Fall Festival Party on October 31st.  We will be doing activities in the classroom and we ask that the children wear NO costumes.   If you would like to bring in a treat for the class you are welcome to do that.  We have 18 children and 4 teachers.  Remember the items must be store bought.  Thank you in advance for you helpfulnessJ

Remember that Trunk or Treat is at 6-8 on Monday, October 30.  They are also asking for donation of candy to hand out that evening.

Also, we are collecting food for the community harvest food bank.  This is so important that the children learn to help others. Thank you to those who have brought cans in and continue to bring cans in each day.

Thanks so much,

Ms. Stacey and Ms. Angela

Welcome to Room 104!

We would like to welcome back all of our returning children and families and extend a warm welcome to all of our new children and families. September is always a time of excitement, yet with that comes anxiety and nervousness for many children. We will do our best to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible and to ensure that each child feels loved, respected and safe. A Montessori learning environment is like no other … our main objective at Martin Luther King Montessori School is to provide a carefully planned, stimulating environment which will help children to develop within themselves the foundational habits, attitudes, skills and ideas essential for a lifetime of creative thinking and learning. Respect and courtesy in our Montessori school is the foundation for everything we do and each child will soon learn the following important skills:

*how to put their work away where they found it

*how to tidy up after themselves

*the importance of helping a friend in need.

*how to tuck in their chair when they leave the table

*how to walk in the classroom

*how to be self-directed and find their own ‘work’ and most importantly,

*how to be independent!

Each child will feel empowered at MLK and learn how great it feels to do things on their own! Each Montessori teacher is here to nurture, support and guide them each and every day and are committed to making your child’s Montessori preschool experience productive, stimulating and fun! We are honored that you have chosen our school and we are confident that this will be a wonderful year for everyone involved!

We are looking forward to getting to know each child and working with each family to make this year a successful one! If at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment with us after school so that we can discuss things in detail.

  • Please remember to bring in an extra set of clothes in case of an accident.  They will need shorts, shirt, socks and underwear.  We will sent home the summer clothes when the weather gets cooler and ask for winter clothes.
  • Blankets will be sent home on Fridays to have them washed.  If your child has a pillow it might be a good idea to bring in a pillow case for it.
  • We go outside even if it is wet out.  If you want your child to wear a different pair of shoes outside you may send in a pair.  MLK has a wonderful blacktop that we use on those wet days as we enjoy having races and playing other games.
  • Please check folders each night.  Thanks!

Room 104

Hello Room 104 Families,

This week we began learning our sight words.  We have learned I, A and The.  We also talked about how words are put together to make sentences and sentences are put together to make stories.  The children are very excited to get their new writing journals next week and begin working on writing their own stories.  We have also been learning the difference between light objects and heavy objects.  Next Friday (March 17th) we will be having a St. Patrick’s Day party. Your children may wear their favorite green outfit if they wish.  Treats will not be necessary.

Thank You,

Miss Kim & Miss Kari
