At MLK Montessori, our program is designed with the working parent in mind.
Year-round Class
A year-round school calendar provides students with consistent learning opportunities, reduces summer learning loss, and supports steady academic and social development throughout the year. At MLK Montessori School, we enhance this model by offering an enriched STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program during the summer months. This hands-on, inquiry-based approach keeps students engaged, fosters creativity and critical thinking, and allows them to explore real-world applications of their learning in a dynamic and stimulating environment.
Meal Program
MLK Montessori serves healthy and nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) as well as other snacks to all of its students thanks to its partnership with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which is administered by the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service. Childcare providers who participate in the Food Program offer more fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats than providers who do not participate in CACFP. Moreover, MLK Montessori’s participation means that not only are well-balanced meals and snacks served, but that other requirements (e.g. safety regulations and other health guidelines) are also being followed. To remain in the program, MLK Montessori is continually monitored and held to the highest standards of health and nutrition. See sample menu

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Studies show that meaningful family engagement in children’s early learning supports school readiness and later academic success. For these and other reasons, MLK Montessori encourages parent involvement and offers a variety of opportunities for parents to be engaged in their children’s education.
Parent Advisory Council: All parents are given the opportunity to serve on the Parent Advisory Council. The Parent Advisory Council, which meets quarterly with the school’s Family Engagement Specialist and with a representative from the Board of Directors, supports student learning and helps to make decisions related to the school’s Family Enrichment Activities and Parent Information Nights.
Family Enrichment Activities: MLK Montessori hosts Family Enrichment Activities each year. The goal of these activities is to bring students and parents together and to celebrate the family. Activities include, for example, “Donuts for Dad,” “Fall Fest,” and the annual “Gala/Prom.”
Parent-Teacher Conferences: MLK Montessori holds mandatory Parent-Teacher Conferences twice each year.
